Do Good: Empower Communities & Inspire the Next Generation
Dear Reader:
I want to personally welcome you to this space, where hope, community, and action intertwine. As an author, educator, and environmental advocate, I’ve made a conscious decision to place young people at the heart of everything I do. For me, it’s not merely about telling stories—it’s about empowering our children to carry forward the vital messages of our interconnectedness with one another and the Earth. In every author visit, every book sale, and every event I attend, I share these messages alongside the organizations I deeply believe in—organizations I’ve gotten to know personally through years of collaboration. I’ve even had the privilege of serving on their boards, witnessing firsthand their commitment to nurturing a healthier planet and empowering the next generation. My hope is that by offering workshops aligned with each of these initiatives, you too will be moved to join us in this work, bridging the gap between intention and action. Because here’s the truth: we can’t afford to ignore the fragile balance that sustains our planet, nor can we overlook the social disparities that silence too many voices. Balancing the scales means uplifting every young person, wherever they are, and forging deeper, more meaningful connections among students, families, and communities. In my experience, there’s no better way to kindle that spirit of unity and purpose than by inviting young people to dream, create, and lead—knowing that our world depends on the seeds of hope we plant today. That’s why I’m thrilled to highlight these three powerful initiatives: Kijana Schools, The Green Belt Movement and Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange. Each one illuminates a distinct path to strengthen our communities, whether in the classroom, at home, or across the globe. I invite you to explore, reflect, and engage—together, we can nurture the bright futures our children will bring to life. May they plant seeds of change and illuminate the bright futures our children are ready to build. |
